How to Complete a Layout Drawing
It is critical in any remodel project to take some time making drawings in order to organize your thoughts and ideas.
This article will provide you with the background information and some tools that you can use to develop your own layout drawings, sometimes referred to as plan view drawings. These types of drawings are easy for anyone to produce. Plan view drawings are simply a drawing showing the outlines of furniture and walls that you can make on graph paper. I am providing you a link to graph paper so that you can print your own graph paper, and begin your own plan view layouts. These layouts will look as though you were in the sky looking straight down onto the room, and without any roof or ceiling to block your view of the inside.
It is imperative that these drawings be completed to scale, in other words, everything be drawn to a dimensional size. For example, if you are drawing a 22 foot by 17 foot rectangular room, you can choose graph paper and assume every square on the graph paper represents 1 foot wide by 1 foot tall. Then you draw in a box that would be 25 squares wide by 17 squares tall. Yes, it’s that easy to produce a dimensioned plan view drawing.
