Tips on Decorating a Basement Game Room . . .
When it comes to decorating a space, the sky is the limit. Is your style traditional, country, modern, Art Deco, French country, or even Tuscan? Do you want your space to be formal or relaxed? Do you like bright colors or more neutral, muted colors? Is this an adult space, family space, or children only play room? All of these factors come into play when deciding how to decorate your new space. Your choices will certainly be different if the area is a children only space versus an adult only space. The choice will also probably be different if the space will be used by the whole family. Just remember, you put so much into making this a great living space for fun and relaxation, so don’t forget the about the importance of accessories. A room is just a room until you make it your own. Hopefully by showing you how we decorated our new space, you will come away with some great ideas for your own space.

In our case, we wanted to have a very relaxed, traditional type of atmosphere. Our basement area is used by the whole family so we needed to appeal to everyone in our family. Our color scheme throughout our whole house is muted colors in reds, beiges and greens, so we decided to go with neutral beige in the basement game room area. We have a few windows in our basement to let in some light, but wanted to keep the walls a light color.
Because we painted in neutral beige colors, we needed a splash of darker color in our decorations. We painted the walls a taupe color with the ceiling an ultra white, with the lower part of the ceiling (duct work) painted in an antique white to make them stand out more as a focal point in the room. The columns in this lower ceiling area were painted in an ultra white as was all the molding around the doors, windows and baseboard. Our carpet choice was beige with specks of blue, brown and orange. We decided we wanted to decorate in a sports theme. Our favorite teams are the Chicago Bears and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, both of which have team colors of orange and blue. We found a rug with the University of Illinois logo on it and hung it up on the wall by the table. With the bright colors of mainly orange with blue accents, it adds a lot of contrast to that area.
